According to the Northern Echo, Michael Edwards is a contender for the sporting director role at Newcastle.
The new Toon owners are looking to totally revamp the club that they purchased last month, and will change the way it is ran.
They are looking to appoint a sporting director or director of football, and some big names have been linked.
There was talk of a moves for Ralf Rangnick and Marc Overmars, but the latter is reportedly staying with Ajax. Meanwhile, talk of the former arriving has died down.

But one option that has emerged in recent days is Liverpool chief Michael Edwards. The Northern Echo write that he is a leading challenger for the job, and that Amanda Staveley’s contacts with Liverpool may help a possible deal.
And if Edwards does come to St James’ Park, it would certainly please the next manager Eddie Howe.
Eddie Howe has a good relationship with Michael Edwards amid Newcastle claims
According to the Sun, Howe went to watch Liverpool play Atletico Madrid last week, where he met up with old friend Edwards.
The pair met at Portsmouth, and the Sun add that Howe would love to work with Edwards at Newcastle.

Liverpool’s sporting director would be a sensational appointment. He’s played a key role in this golden era for the Reds, that has seen them sign diamonds in the rough such as Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson.
Newcastle would surely be onto a winner if Edwards was even half as successful at St James’ Park. His time at Anfield is reportedly set to come to an end this summer, with the Athletic stating that he will leave the club.
Could that help or hinder a move to Newcastle? He’ll soon be available, but the Magpies need someone right now. Edwards has already been linked with some big clubs, including Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.
The relationship between sporting director and manager is a pivotal one, so Howe’s imminent appointment may help Edwards if he’s keen on a move to the North East.
