Report: Lewis Miley to stay at Newcastle despite serious PL interest

Newcastle United have a star of the future on their hands in Lewis Miley, and he is already attracting interest from elsewhere.

According to the Chronicle, there is serious interest from multiple Premier League clubs in the 16-year-old. However, his future belongs on Tyneside.

The Chronicle add that Miley will be a Newcastle player for the foreseeable future despite interest from elsewhere.

He signed a full-time scholarship with the club in the summer, and has already made huge strides. The attacking midfielder has trained with Eddie Howe and the first-team, while he was on the bench for the Magpies’ pre-season friendlies against Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao.

Miley is clearly highly rated, and has already played for the club’s Under-21s side despite being just 16.

With a renewed focus on the academy, Miley’s development will be closely monitored to ensure he reaches his potential in a black and white shirt. That’s a stark contrast to what went on before the change of ownership last year.

Since the change of ownership, a lot has happened at Newcastle United. There have been huge changes behind the scenes and the club looks a lot healthier.

One change has been the arrival of Dan Ashworth as Sporting Director. He oversees the playing side of the club at every level. The former Brighton chief plays a big role in recruitment, as well as the development of Newcastle’s youth talents.

The likes of Elliot Anderson will hope to benefit from Ashworth, and Miley should follow the same path. With Ashworth in charge, there will be a very clear route from academy to first-team. Every step will be strategically planned.

However, that didn’t happen in the past, which is why we have a poor record when it comes to producing our own talent.

Take Bobby Clark, for example. The son of Lee Clark is a huge talent, and one that was on Newcastle’s books. However, he joined Liverpool last summer and has already made his Premier League debut for Jurgen Klopp.

Clark decided to ditch Newcastle and head to Anfield, where he would be afforded more opportunities. It’s a shambles that that was allowed to happen. However, it was symbolic of the previous ownership.

Had the takeover happened sooner, we would probably still be able to call Bobby Clark a Newcastle player. He would be one of the many teens set to be boosted by the presence of Ashworth.

For Miley, his future appears to belong at Newcastle. That’s excellent news, as he sounds like a star of the future. And given his remarkable rise, it might not be too long before we see him make his senior debut.
