On Tuesday it looked like Unai Emery was going to leave Villarreal for Newcastle United.
By Wednesday the Spaniard confirmed that he was going absolutely nowhere.
This is a huge blow for Newcastle, who were hoping to name Emery as the Steve Bruce replacement they’ve been searching for.

But the search goes on, while Emery gets back to work with the Yellow Submarine.
His side got a win last night in the Champions League, beating Young Boys 2-0 at home. However, the Villarreal hierarchy were very unhappy on the day.
‘Incensed’
According to the Telegraph, the La Liga side were ‘incensed’ by the timing of Newcastle’s approach. It came on the day of a huge Champions League game, which was set to have a big impact on their future in the competition.
Fortunately for Villarreal, the Emery speculation didn’t faze them and they were able to grab a vital three points.

The whole saga is wildly embarrassing for the new Newcastle owners.
They’ve majorly angered a Champions League club with the way they’ve conducted business. Who knows, it may hinder them in the future if they try to buy a player from Villarreal. The Spanish side may be reluctant to do business now.
Of course, that is purely speculation. But the Unai Emery saga is far from the Newcastle owners’ finest hour.
