Report: How Eddie Howe has reacted to referee decisions against Newcastle

Newcastle United have been involved in some horrendous referee decisions this season.

In the previous three games we’ve been massively let down by the officials. We had a horrendous three-game run of difficult fixtures, and the referees made them even tougher.

A blatant dive from James Maddison gave Leicester the chance to take the lead at the King Power more than a week ago. That set the Foxes on their way to a dominant 4-0 win.

Next was a trip to Liverpool, where Mike Dean failed to stop play in the build-up to Liverpool’s equaliser, despite Isaac Hayden clearly suffering from a head injury. He then failed to award Newcastle a possible penalty for a foul by Trent Alexander-Arnold on Ryan Fraser.

The second incident was more debateable, but equally infuriating given what came before. Then to top it all off, Dean did his best to get in the way of Martin Dubravka’s line of sight as TAA thundered home Liverpool’s third.

Our most recent game was at home to Manchester City, and the most obvious penalty you’ll ever see wasn’t given by the man in the middle.

As Joao Cancelo cleared a ball away from the box, an out of control Ederson slid into Fraser and wiped him out in the penalty area. It was a stonewall penalty. There’s no way you can argue otherwise.

VAR’s alleged reason for not interfering was because Cancelo had control of the ball. If that’s the case, does that mean you can do whatever you like to players who aren’t in possession?!

While results might have remained in the same over the past three games, these horrific decisions have enraged Toon fans. But how has Eddie Howe reacted?

Referee decisions infuriate Newcastle boss Eddie Howe

According to the Telegraph, Howe has ‘privately been incensed’ by the decisions that have gone against his side.

The report adds that people behind the scenes have been shocked by the recent officiating. And that’s why the club are reportedly lodging a complaint to the Premier League.

While the complaint won’t change what has happened in the past few weeks, it will hopefully provide Newcastle with an explanation.

The conspiracy theorists will suggest it’s all part of an elaborate plan by the Premier League. It’s no wonder people think that way after what has been going on.

While those claims are totally unfounded, the standard of refereeing simply hasn’t been acceptable. In an age where VAR allows referees to re-watch certain incidents, the fact some of the decisions have stood is nothing short of a disgrace.
