There has been a lot of noise surrounding Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin over the past few days.

The 24-year-old is currently out injured, and missed his second game in a row on Saturday. Eddie Howe was once again without Saint-Maximin for the trip to Brentford. Fortunately, his absence wasn’t an issue.

Newcastle have actually done well without the Frenchman, which hasn’t often been the case during his Toon career. Howe’s side have picked up four points during Saint-Maximin’s injury layoff.

There was reportedly hope that he would be ready for the Brentford game, but that hope was extinguished when the Newcastle team bus arrived at the ground with no Saint-Maximin on board.

In the meantime, ridiculous rumours about the Toon winger surfaced on social media.

And as we’ve seen so many times before, people will believe these baseless claims. It was only last week that the mainstream media latched on to a false story about Chris Wood ‘meowing’ at Kurt Zouma…

Allan Saint-Maximin on his way back

People speculated that Saint-Maximin had gone AWOL – heading back to France before the 1-1 draw with West Ham. However, these crazy rumours have been put to bed.

According to the Shields Gazette, ASM was given permission to go to France by Howe. The manager even said before the Brentford game that he was overseas receiving specialist treatment.

Following an update on his Instagram account, Saint-Maximin is back in England. He could reportedly return to the Newcastle side this weekend, when Brighton head to St James’ Park.

The Magpies will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games, and a returning Saint-Maximin can only help the team.

As for the ‘fans’ making up rumours, they should have a long hard look at themselves and realise the damage they’re causing. We’re meant to be Newcastle ‘United’.
