The referee has been appointed for Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Saturday.
The Magpies are preparing to welcome the Premier League champions to St James’ Park at the weekend, after their midweek Carabao Cup clash with Wimbledon was postponed.
Newcastle United can now focus all their attention on the game against Pep Guardiola’s side, where Manchester City will be without Rodri due to injury. He could be out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.
Elsewhere, Kevin de Bruyne is a doubt for Manchester City, while Newcastle United appear to have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game on Tyneside.

Jarred Gillett to referee Newcastle United vs Manchester City
It has been announced that Jarred Gillett will be the referee for Saturday’s game at St James’ Park.
it is the first time that he has refereed either side in the Premier League this season, but he did take charge of the Community Shield in August that saw Man City beat Manchester United on penalties.
Gillett recently oversaw the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, which the Gunners won 1-0 thanks to a header from Gabriel Magalhaes.
On that day, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was lucky to avoid receiving a red card for a challenge that could have changed the course of the game when the score was level at 0-0.
In the 35th minute, Timber went over the top of the ball as he went in for a tackle with Tottenham’s Pedro Porro. It was a big flashpoint in the game which culminated in the Dutchman being given a yellow card rather than a red.

Eddie Howe’s record against Manchester City with Newcastle
It will be a tough game for Newcastle United, who have not beaten Manchester City in the Premier League since Eddie Howe became Toon boss. The last time the Magpies beat Man City in the league was when Rafa Benitez was manager, as his side came from a goal down to win 2-1 in January 2019.
However, Howe does have one win over Man City since his arrival on Tyneside.
It came in last season’s Carabao Cup, with Alexander Isak scoring the only goal of the game as Newcastle won 1-0 at St James’ Park.
Since becoming Newcastle United manager, Howe has taken on Guardiola and Manchester City on eight occasions in all competitions. Newcastle have won once, drawn once, and lost the other six.
Jarred Gillett has refereed Newcastle vs Manchester City before
That one draw came in August 2022, at the beginning of the season that saw Newcastle United qualify for the Champions League.
Newcastle and Man City drew 3-3, with the Magpies actually squandering a 3-1 lead after initially falling behind.
It was an incredible game of football, and one that was refereed by Jarred Gillett.
The Aussie has taken charge of 10 Newcastle United games, with the Magpies involved in his first ever Premier League fixture. That was a 1-1 draw with Watford back in September 2021.
During the 10 Newcastle games that he has refereed, Gillett has issued 16 yellow cards and zero red cards.
