‘I was buzzing’: Jamaal Lascelles was so excited after what £3m Newcastle player did recently

There were so many special moments during Newcastle United’s Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain, but one stands out for Jamaal Lascelles.

While fans rejoiced about seeing Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff score for their boyhood club in the Champions League, Lascelles was more delighted for another goalscorer.

Fabian Schar scored Newcastle United’s fourth goal of the night, and it was undoubtedly the Magpies’ best. His long range effort in stoppage time curled beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma to cap off a famous victory for Newcastle, as Eddie Howe’s side won 4-1.

It was an absolute screamer from Schar, who has always had that in his locker ever since his £3million move to St James’ Park.

We have seen wonder strikes against Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City in years gone by, but this was the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. It was an incredible stage to score such a goal, and Lascelles has explained why he was absolutely delighted for his centre-back partner.

Jamaal Lascelles absolutely ‘buzzing’ for Fabian Schar

Lascelles has spoke to Newcastle United’s official website about the Magpies’ fourth goal against PSG, and explained why he was so happy to see Schar score it.

“It could have been anybody who scored that goal but I was so pleased for Fabian,” he said.

“Me and him have been through thick and thin. We’ve been partners for a long time playing next to different people throughout the years. I was buzzing for him and the team.”

Newcastle need Schar and Lascelles to deliver again on Wednesday

With Sven Botman still out injured, Newcastle will very likely have Lascelles and Schar at centre-back on Wednesday when they face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

And while Lascelles was delighted to see Schar score in the previous European fixture, it was their defensive efforts that made the biggest difference.

They were outstanding against PSG, and will need to be just as solid against Dortmund. While they don’t have Kylian Mbappe, they do have plenty of attacking stars who can cause Newcastle real problems.

Another wondergoal from Schar would be excellent, but we are happy to settle for another defensive masterclass from him and the skipper.
