It looks like today is the day that former Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez becomes Everton manager.

After weeks of speculation, reports, banners and negotiations, it looks like the Toffees are finally set to announce who will replace Carlo Ancelotti.

And, unless something goes drastically wrong, it will be Benitez.

According to Sky Sports, the Spaniard is set to be announced as manager today, agreeing a three-year deal.

Ironically, it’s the two year anniversary of his Newcastle United exit.

Since then, Benitez has been managing in China, taking over at Dalian Yifang shortly after leaving St James’ Park.

However, he has been unemployed since January after leaving the Chinese Super League side.

But his hiatus is seemingly over, and a return to the Premier League is imminent.

Benitez appointment will be tough to take for Toon fans

It will be tough for Toon fans, who have hoped for Benitez’s return ever since he departed.

Some even thought a takeover resolution this summer would bring him back to St James’ Park.

But instead he’ll be an opponent for Newcastle next season. And he’ll have a hard job on his hands when he takes on his former side, as Everton have struggled against the Magpies in recent years.

He’ll also have a difficult job winning over some Everton fans, who are unhappy with the club appointing a former Liverpool manager.

There has been outrage on social media, while banners have been put up outside of Goodison Park and near Benitez’s family home.

There’s been so much backlash you wonder why he still wants the job…

But with footage of the 61-year-old arriving at Everton’s training ground, it looks like the deal is set to be announced.

Some Toon fans have seen the footage of Benitez arriving at Finch Farm, and have given their reaction to his imminent return to management.
