Pundit thinks Newcastle could try to sign Harry Kane this summer

Harry Kane is always linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, and pundit Stan Collymore thinks Newcastle United could try to sign the forward in the coming months.

The former Liverpool forward has been speaking to Caught Offside, and speculated that Kane could soon be the subject of interest from the Magpies.

His contract at Spurs is currently set to expire in the summer of 2024, meaning he is now in the final 18 months of his deal. That means that his future is up in the air, and talk of a transfer is only going to intensify the longer he holds off on extending his contract.

Kane was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2021, but a move failed to materialise.

Fast forward to the summer of 2023, and Collymore is predicting that Kane could be in the gossip columns once again – this time regarding a move to St James’ Park.

Stan Collymore thinks Newcastle will try to sign Harry Kane

Collymore has been speaking to Caught Offside, and has suggested that Newcastle could make a move for Kane at the end of the season.

“Harry Kane has 18 months left on his deal and if things don’t go well for the Lilywhites this season, he’s going to look like a very attractive option to a lot of clubs – one of those being Eddie Howe’s Magpies,” Collymore wrote.

He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Newcastle try for him in a few months’ time, especially if they’re still flying high and challenging for a spot in Europe themselves.

“I think he gets on very well with Alan Shearer too, so there’s a good foundation there already.

Don’t be surprised if Kane and Newcastle are a match made in heaven.”

Kane would be a statement signing

There is no denying that Kane would be a sensational signing for Newcastle. He is a ‘world class‘ player – one of the top strikers on the planet today.

The 29-year-old is enjoying a sensational season, and currently has 15 Premier League goals. That is six more than Newcastle’s top scorer Miguel Almiron.

But would a move to St James’ Park really appeal for Kane? Possibly, if we can qualify for the Champions League.

Collymore thinks the Alan Shearer factor could sway Kane towards Tyneside, but that feels unlikely. If he is available in the summer, there are going to be plenty of clubs keen on his signature. It would end up being a very difficult and expensive deal, even if he would then be in the final 12 months of his contract.

And considering Newcastle recently broke their transfer record to sign a striker in Alexander Isak, it would be a shock to see an even bigger name arrive and effectively take his place.

Kane would be a real marquee signing for the Magpies. And he could take us to an even higher level. But Collymore’s prediction sounds fanciful to say the least.
