Newcastle United fans have been shocked by how good Bruno Guimaraes is, and pundit Ian Wright thinks Eddie Howe feels the same.
The 24-year-old was the Magpies’ statement signing in January. It was the first transfer window under the new owners, and it proved to be very challenging.
Howe needed players who could improve his squad, but also had the right character to handle a relegation battle. And the club were also looking for talents who could play a part in Newcastle’s future.
On January 30th, Bruno arrived with the ability to do it all. He cost £35million from Lyon, and is now establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders.
The Brazil international was exceptional on Saturday, scoring twice in the 5-1 win over Brentford. He has received praise from far and wide for his performance.
It is breathtaking to watch Bruno play for Newcastle, and pundit Ian Wright has made an interesting claim about the Magpies’ number 39.
Wright: Howe shocked by Bruno
The former Arsenal striker has appeared on the latest episode of the Kelly And Wrighty Show, and discussed Newcastle’s brilliant form and the ability Bruno possesses.
“I can’t say I expected it to be as quick as it’s been,” Wright said.
“But I think Eddie has been shrewd with what he has done. He said himself with Guimaraes ‘we have really had a result with him’ simply because of the money they paid and the player they got. I don’t want to talk out of school but ‘we are absolutely astounded by it and his ability’.”
Bruno can still get even better
Bruno is already Newcastle’s key component. He is the complete midfielder, and everything good about Howe’s side goes through him.
If what Wright has said about Howe is correct, the Toon boss must be absolutely buzzing with the club’s recruitment team.
Getting Bruno was a real coup, but it was a risk signing a player from Ligue 1 for so much money midway through the season. But after a period on the bench, he quickly proved that he can handle Premier League football.
His adaptation period is still going on, which should be a worrying thought for other Premier League clubs. Bruno is only 24, and he can still get even better.
Howe is seemingly shocked by how good Bruno is, and he can contribute to making him even better. But Howe’s job is made a lot easier by the Brazilian, who can run games on his own.
Newcastle signed a superstar in January, and hopefully he is at St James’ Park for a long time and that Howe continues to be ‘astounded’.
