Former Newcastle target Brandon Williams put in a good performance at St. James’ Park last night.
The Magpies are still without a win this season, drawing 1-1 with the Canaries.
The match was described by many as ‘must-win’ for Newcastle.
But chances of doing that became slim very quickly, with Ciaran Clark getting sent off inside 10 minutes.
The experienced defender inexplicable pulled back Teemu Pukki as the last man following an initial mistake.
He tried to right his wrong, but ended up leaving his team in the lurch.
Newcastle battled extremely hard, and came away with a point in the end.
Norwich actually weren’t great despite having a one-man advantage.
That said, Williams did have a pretty decent outing at left-back.
According to Sofascore, the 21-year-old completed 55/61 of his passes (90%).
He also won 5/6 of his duels and made three interceptions – more than any other player.
The Manchester United loanee was heavily involved for the visitors, having 82 touches in the game.
It was the first time Williams was facing Newcastle, since being linked with a move to the club in the summer.
Williams was also heavily linked with a move to St. James’ in January 2021, with there even being claims a loan deal in principle had been struck.
Brandon Williams looked the part against Newcastle
Norwich were disappointing as a collective given Newcastle played most of the game with 10 men.
But Brandon Williams did put in a pretty good performance on a personal note.
He would have made for a decent signing for the Magpies and his versatility could have come in handy.
The picture has changed significantly now of course, and Newcastle fans will hope some much more glamorous names will be on the horizon.
The club’s shocking start to the new season could make things very tricky though.
