Bruno Guimaraes has had quite the year as Newcastle United captain.

He was given the armband by Eddie Howe at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, as the Newcastle United manager handed his superstar midfielder more responsibility.

After a slow start to the season, Bruno Guimaraes has relished being Newcastle United captain.

Bruno has improved as a leader, while he has already lifted silverware. Newcastle won the Carabao Cup in March, beating Liverpool at Wembley to end their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

The 27-year-old lifted the cup alongside Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles, two other exceptional leaders at St James’ Park.

Premier League rule change coming for the 2025/26 season

Newcastle United have a lot of strong voices on and off the pitch, with Dan Burn another Toon player who falls into that category.

However, a change to Premier League rules will result in a change to the way that those Newcastle United voices interact with the referee.

According to the Telegraph, the Premier League are set to announce a rule change that means only the captain can speak to the referee after big incidents.

The captains-only rule was used at Euro 2024 last summer, while it has also been applied in the three UEFA club competitions this season.

Other players will be able to interact with the referee during the game, but conversations over major decisions will be reserved for skippers like Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle United to be impacted by other major Premier League change

That is not the only change coming to the Premier League for the upcoming season.

It has been reported that the summer transfer window will close at 7pm, rather than 11pm.

Clubs like Newcastle United will therefore have less time to complete their business, while there will be no scrambling into the early hours of the morning to ratify deals.

This change should not be a major concern for the Magpies, as they are rarely a club that is panicking on the last day of the window to make new signings.

It has been reported that Howe wants Newcastle to do their business early this summer, as Toon sporting director Paul Mitchell prepares to enhance a squad that needs more depth ahead of returning to European action.
