Newcastle United are looking to get back to winning ways following their defeat to Aston Villa last week.

The Magpies were second best at Villa Park as the strain of three games in the space of six days caught up to them.

Newcastle United’s loss to Aston Villa means they lost ground in the race for Champions League qualification, but they will be thankful that Manchester City beat Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night to keep the two-point gap intact.

Eddie Howe’s side take on Ipswich Town at St James’ Park on Saturday, where the Magpies are looking to make it a clean sweep of wins against the newly promoted sides this season.

Alan Shearer said Ipswich are a ‘really good’ team for Newcastle to play, with the Tractor Boys in poor form and set for relegation to the Championship.

While the Magpies look to bounce back from a humbling defeat, it has been confirmed that one big name will be missing from the clash. There is no doubt he will be devastated because of what it means.

Ipswich Town ace Leif Davis confirmed to miss Newcastle United clash

Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis has been a key player for the Premier League outfit this season, playing 31 games.

While it has not been the best of seasons for Ipswich, Davis has shown that he has the potential to play consistently in the Premier League.

Saturday’s game should have been a dream appearance for Davis. Born in Newcastle, the 25-year-old was part of the famous Wallsend Boys Club, which produced players like Elliot Anderson, Peter Beardsley and Shearer.

Davis is a boyhood Newcastle fan, once claiming he had a season ticket at St James’ Park. However, his dream of playing at the ground came to an abrupt halt when he was shown a straight red card in Ipswich’s 4-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

His suspension has been confirmed on the Premier League website, with a statement saying: “Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis received a straight red card for serious foul play against Arsenal, for which he is set to serve a three-match suspension, returning in Matchweek 37.”

To make matters worse, if Ipswich lose the game to Newcastle, their relegation back to the Championship will be confirmed.

Second key player’s suspension confirmed ahead of Newcastle United clash

While either Jason Tindall or Howe will be focusing on Saturday’s game at St James’ Park, there are still four other games to play this season.

One of those games is a long trip down to Brighton and Hove Albion at the beginning of May. Brighton have beaten Newcastle twice this season, with both of them coming at St James’ Park.

However, the Premier League has confirmed that Joao Pedro will miss that game after being handed a three-match ban.

Pedro caused Newcastle problems in the FA Cup in March, bagging the assist for Yankuba Minteh’s goal and being a constant nuisance throughout the game.

The trip to the south coast will still be a difficult one, with the Magpies desperate for three points to continue their hunt for Champions League football.
