The 21/22 Premier League season hasn’t long finished, but Newcastle fans are already excited for the start of the 22/23 campaign.
It’s going to be a very exciting transfer window for Toon fans, with plenty of exciting players linked with moves to St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe could have a very different squad at the start of next season, which begins on August 6th. Newcastle will find out next month who they face on the opening day, with fixtures set to be released on June 16th.
With that in mind, here is our predicted Newcastle starting XI for the first game of the 22/23 season

Dean Henderson
Newcastle have been heavily linked with Dean Henderson. There are claims of a £15million bid. If he does arrive, he will surely be number one and make his competitive debut on the opening day of the season.
Kieran Trippier
The right-back will be itching to play for Newcastle after seeing his first half a season disrupted by injury. He returned to the starting XI for the final game against Burnley, and should captain the Magpies in the first game in less than three months.
Fabian Schar

Fabian Schar won a new contract to stay at Newcastle, having seriously impressed Howe. His ability on the ball should keep him in the starting XI next season.
Sven Botman
Another new signing, and a player we tried to land in January. There are fresh reports of a new bid to land Sven Botman, who is a highly rated Dutch defender. He’ll need to settle quickly at Newcastle, and the only way he’s going to do that is by playing games.
Matt Targett
While there’s speculation of Renan Lodi coming to Newcastle, we predict Matt Targett to return to the club. He’d be a sensible signing, and well worth the £15million he’ll cost.
Moussa Diaby

This will be our biggest signing of the summer if we pull it off. Having him on one wing and Allan Saint-Maximin on the other will make us incredibly dangerous in attack.
Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle’s new hero of 2022 will be excited for his first full season as a Magpie. A nailed on starter who will play a big role in any success we have in 22/23.
Jonjo Shelvey
Jonjo Shelvey missed the end of the season due to injury, but will hopefully be fit to return by August. While new faces will arrive, he will likely continue in the centre of midfield. His experience and ability on the ball remains invaluable.
Joelinton

Newcastle’s Player of the Year has to start next season. It’s as simple as that.
Allan Saint-Maximin
He’s been linked with a move away from St James’ Park, but Saint-Maximin should start next season in Howe’s first XI. A strong pre-season could set him up for his best season yet as a Toon player.
Callum Wilson
While a new striker is being linked, we expect number nine Callum Wilson to start next season up front. Injury is the only reason he shouldn’t play, and he should benefit from fresh creativity around him.
Henderson; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Targett; Diaby, Bruno, Shelvey, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin; Wilson.
