Newcastle United’s starting XI is predicted to look very different by the end of January.
The Magpies are going to have a very busy transfer window, as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
But what will our best starting lineup be after the window closes? Here is our prediction…

Martin Dubravka
Newcastle have been linked with plenty of goalkeepers since the takeover, but we don’t expect a major arrival in between the sticks during the January transfer window. Therefore, Martin Dubravka retains the number one jersey.
Kieran Trippier
The England international has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, and will hopefully be the first marquee arrival of the PIF era. Signing Kieran Trippier would be a real statement of intent.
Sven Botman
Sven Botman is one of Newcastle’s more ambitious January targets, but that doesn’t mean a deal isn’t possible. Signing players from outside of the Premier League might be easier for the Magpies, and breaking the bank for the 21-year-old would be worth it in the short and long term.
Nathan Ake

Newcastle need Premier League experience at the back. That’s why they’ve been linked with the likes of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.
Tarkowski would be ideal, but there is talk that he won’t leave until the summer. Therefore, we expect Eddie Howe to turn to his former player Nathan Ake, who is continuing to struggle for minutes at Manchester City, where he won the title last season after his £41million move.
A loan move to Newcastle, perhaps?
Jamal Lewis
Left-back is hardly a position of strength for Newcastle, but Jamal Lewis showed promise on his return to the side. Hopefully he can continue to kick on after a difficult start to his Toon career.
Ryan Fraser
Ryan Fraser is a player who Eddie Howe knows and trusts. He also has a wonderful understanding with Callum Wilson. That’s why we think he’ll keep his place in the starting XI, and 2022 could be a big year for Fraser and Newcastle.
Marcelo Brozovic

This would be a big signing for Newcastle. We desperately need a new presence in the middle of the park, and Marcelo Brozovic would be exactly that.
Excellent in and out of possession, this is an ambitious target that we need to land. If not, we need someone with similar attributes.
Jonjo Shelvey
Jonjo Shelvey has improved under Eddie Howe after a few years of stagnation. He’s incredibly gifted on his day, and just needs to be more consistent. Easier said than done…
Allan Saint-Maximin
Despite all our riches, Allan Saint-Maximin can still be our talisman. He’s the kind of player you pay to see. He gets you on the edge of your seat with his flicks and tricks.

Moussa Dembele
While Joelinton has improved under Howe, the Magpies still need more quality in attack. We can’t just rely on Callum Wilson.
That’s why links with Moussa Dembele are so exciting. Lyon reportedly need to cash in, which could open the door for Newcastle to sign the sensational French forward.
Callum Wilson
Our number nine and our star striker – Callum Wilson is going absolutely nowhere. While he does have injury issues, he’s a guaranteed starter when fit. And more often than not he delivers with goals aplenty.
