Garang Kuol was almost Australia’s World Cup hero on Saturday night, and hopefully it isn’t long before he is shining in a Newcastle United shirt.

The teenager had a glorious chance to draw the Socceroos level against Argentina, but his last gasp effort was saved by Emi Martinez.

It would have been an incredible moment for Kuol. If his shot had gone in, it would have been his first ever goal for his country. At 18 years and 79 days, he also would have become the youngest player ever to score a goal in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

But it wasn’t to be. Australia were eliminated, ending what has been an extraordinary tournament for Graham Arnold’s side.

Their World Cup is over now, and the players have flown back to Australia. And Kuol had a very interesting shirt on when he posed for a picture with a fan in Sydney.

The Australia team’s official Twitter account have been posting pictures of their heroes returning home after an incredible World Cup. They did fantastic to get out of the group, and then they gave Argentina a late scare on Saturday night.

They did their country proud, and for Kuol it was his first taste of a major tournament. He brushed shoulders with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, and next on his agenda is his move to Newcastle United.

The 18-year-old’s transfer will become official on January 1st, costing £300,000 from Central Coast Mariners. And it looks like he is already getting used to the Magpies’ colours.

As you can see in the picture above, Kuol has been snapped wearing the Newcastle away shirt as he poses for a picture with a fan.

It’s the shirt he saw Newcastle play in during his visit to England, as he stood in the away end for the 4-0 win over Fulham back in October.

On that day we saw Miguel Almiron steal the show, and hopefully we see Kuol do the same thing in the coming years.

A loan move is reportedly on the horizon for the forward when he first arrives, so it might be a while before we actually see him play in a Toon shirt. But he has been spotted wearing the club’s away kit after the World Cup exit, and it certainly looks good on him.
