Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been reunited with ‘best friend’ Lucas Paqueta.
However, the duo are not posing in Toon shirts, which is what a lot of supporters want to see.
The Brazilian duo struck up a great friendship at Lyon, but were split up in January. That’s because Bruno headed to Tyneside, where he has become a hero at St James’ Park.
Interestingly, it could have been Paqueta who moved to Newcastle. The Magpies reportedly made a £34million bid for the attacker, but their approach was rebuffed.
Luckily, the same outcome didn’t occur when Eddie Howe’s side moved for Bruno. He arrived for £42million, and has proven to be worth every penny so far.
The 24-year-old has truly excelled in the Premier League, and has been involved in some incredible moments during his short time in the North East.
It’s already been an amazing year for Bruno, and it could get better with the World Cup not far away. The Toon midfielder should be involved for Brazil, along with his best pal Paqueta.
International duty brings Bruno and Paqueta back together
While the Premier League season is over, Bruno has still been in action.
He was called up to the Brazil squad, and has appeared off the bench in victories against South Korea and Japan. The Toon star even got himself an assist in the 5-1 win over South Korea.
While Bruno started both games as a substitute, his friend Paqueta was in the starting XI.
After the 1-0 win over Japan, the duo posed for a picture which Bruno has posted on his official Twitter account. He accompanied the picture with the caption: “When you play with your best friend. Love uu my bro.”
Talk of Newcastle breaking the bank for Paqueta
Seeing Bruno and Paqueta together will spark further speculation about the latter joining Newcastle. He’s recently visited the area, and was pictured wearing a Toon top in Bruno’s back garden.
While that may have just been a bit of fun, there have been reports of a fresh bid from the Magpies.
The Times reported last month that Newcastle are willing to break their transfer record to sign the 24-year-old. They claim that he is a top target for Howe, and could cost around £50million.
It would be a huge signing for Newcastle, who are yet to make a splash in the summer transfer window. Bringing Paqueta to SJP would do just that.
A deal would delight fans and Bruno, who would be able to play alongside his ‘best friend’ every week in a black and white shirt.
