Five days after the deal was announced, Bruno Guimaraes is finally on his way to Newcastle.
The Magpies confirmed on Sunday that they had completed a deal to sign the midfielder from Lyon. He’s agreed a four-and-a-half year deal with the club, and could end up costing a record fee.
The deal is worth £42million, including almost £7million worth of add-ons. Guimaraes could end up costing more than Joelinton did in 2019.
That’s a real statement by the Magpies, who have brought in a ‘complete’ midfielder according to Ligue 1 expert Robin Bairner.

However, despite agreeing the deal, the 24-year-old is yet to arrive in the North East of England.
International duty delays Bruno Guimaraes’ Newcastle arrival
When Newcastle signed Guimaraes, he was busy representing Brazil. Yes, Newcastle have signed a man who plays international football for Brazil…
A Toon official even flew to South America to conclude the deal following Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador.
The international break wasn’t over though, and Guimaraes played on Tuesday night as his side beat Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay 4-0. The new Toon signing even made an impact, coming off the bench to create the fourth goal.

He gave us a glimpse of what he’s capable of, and why he’s going to be such a good signing for Eddie Howe’s side.
But now attentions turn to his Toon arrival, and Guimaraes’ latest tweet will delight fans.
As seen below, the Magpies’ number 39 posted a picture of himself on a plane, alongside a simple caption of two black and white circles, a plane and a happy face. He’s also looking sharp in the process, donning a smart suit and shiny watch.
Guimaraes is on his way to Tyneside, where no doubt there will be an official unveiling. While there was a picture of him in a Toon top posted on his social media, there will likely be official snaps taken by the club photographer Serena Taylor when he arrives.
Then the focus will be meeting and training with his new teammates ahead of the Everton game on Tuesday night. Hopefully he’s ready to make his Newcastle debut, as it is set to be another vital tie under the lights at St James’ Park.
