Newcastle United endured a gruelling season under Eddie Howe.

While there were certainly a number of highpoints throughout the campaign, it was a testing season for Newcastle.

A relentless injury crisis and an inability to sign players during the January transfer window amid lingering FFP restrictions placed a huge strain on Howe’s squad.

Indeed, a number of big players missed so much of the season due to various ailments.

There were very few constants on which Howe could rely, although a couple of names do stand out.

Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar played in almost every minute throughout the season, along with another.

Now, that player is in line for a huge reward.

Anthony Gordon, hailed as “phenomenal” by Jeff Stelling recently, may be off to Euro 2024.

Anthony Gordon gets bittersweet news after Newcastle injury

The winger missed the final game of the season after suffering an ankle knock in the defeat to Manchester United towards the end of the campaign.

According to the Daily Mail, Gordon will miss England’s friendly against Bosnia at St James’ Park on Monday due to injury, although its more of a precautionary measure than anything else. He is, however, said to still be feeling the impact of the ankle problem.

Interestingly, they also add that the 23-year-old is almost certain to make the 26-man England squad for the Euros when Gareth Southgate confirms it later this month.

Newcastle struck gold with Anthony Gordon

While Gordon did endure a difficult start following a £40m move from Everton, it’s been a story of rapid-fire ascent since.

Billed as one of the top players in the Premier League this season, the money spent on him now looks like a real bargain. At 23, there’s surely still so much more to come.

England have benefited from the improvements Howe has yielded from him and perhaps Gordon can cap off a stunning season with the ultimate glory in Germany this summer.
