Pundit Paul Merson has predicted the result of Newcastle’s trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham for Sportskeeda.

Eddie Howe will be looking to continue the momentum after three straight victories and make it four in a row against David Moyes’ men.

Merson has picked out Michail Antonio as someone who can threaten Newcastle, and has predicted a defeat for Howe’s side.

Merson’s prediction

“Four weeks ago, this game wouldn’t have been much of a contest as Newcastle were in a dreadful run of form.

“They’ve now won three games on the trot and climbed out of the relegation zone. That said, I still fancy West Ham to win as I don’t think Newcastle will be able to live with the threat posed by Michail Antonio upfront.

“Kieran Trippier is a massive loss for them. He’s been a fantastic addition to the squad as well as the dressing room and has scored two massively important goals for Newcastle since signing for the club in January. The Magpies have been in good form, but this is a hard game for them.

“Prediction: West Ham 2-0 Newcastle.”

Newcastle lost the reverse fixture 4-2 on the opening weekend of the season but plenty has changed since then on Tyneside.

They are flying and although the injury blow suffered by Kieran Trippier is a blow, the momentum of the club may be able to absorb it.

West Ham are tough opponents but Antonio is not in the best of form right now; instead it is Jarrod Bowen grabbing the headlines and pushing for an England place.
