Park Seung-soo is confident he will get a “chance” at Newcastle United this season.

The teenage forward has so far been a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult pre-season for Newcastle United

Seung-soo has impressed Newcastle fans with his brief cameos in the first team thus far, having only arrived earlier this summer from Suwon Bluewings.

The 18-year-old appears to have left an impression on the Newcastle United coaching staff too.

Indeed, Seung-soo is set to stay at Newcastle for the rest of pre-season before a decision is made on his future.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the manner in which he performed on the pitch, Seung-soo is confident he can make an impact on Tyneside this season.

Park Seung-soo may now stay at Newcastle United

The forward was speaking to Korean outlet Korea Joongang Daily

The article in which the interview is included claims that Seung-soo is set to stay at the club next season in the U21 squad, rather than going out on loan.

Asked about his immediate future at St James’ Park, Park says he is convinced he can take his chance when it comes and suggested that fellow wingers Anthony Elanga and Anthony Gordon are not “unbeatable” in the battle for a starting berth.

“I believe if I perform, I’ll get my chance — and I’ll take it,” he said.

“Players like Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga have power and pace, but they’re not unbeatable. I’m working on my strength — going from 79 to 84 kilograms [174 to 185 pounds] through weight training.”

Park Seung-soo responds to brilliant Heung-min Son claim

South Korea legend Heung-min Son hopes Seung-soo will become an ever-better player than he has been

That is a tall order indeed. The 33-year-old has proven to be one of the best players in the Premier League at Tottenham and has amassed a stunning 134 caps for his country.

Son is four goals (51) off of Cha Bum-kun’s all-time scoring record (55) for South Korea, too.

If Seung-soo proves even half as good as Son has been for Spurs over the years, Newcastle will have quite the player on their hands.

Reacting to Son’s comments, Seung-soo said in the interview: “I want to be better than Son Heung-min. I really believe I can be.
