‘Outstanding’ AC Milan player is now set to miss Newcastle game tomorrow

AC Milan are set to be without a key player ahead of their trip to Newcastle on Wednesday as their injury crisis continues.

Both team’s are going through their own problems with injuries this year and Milan have been dealt a huge blow in the last couple of days with Simon Kjaer now not expected to travel to the North East.

Gazzetto dello Sport are now reporting that the Danish defender was hoping to be available for the game after recovering from an injury, but that he is still not ready to return to action.

Milan to be with just one centre-back against Newcastle

Coming off the back of two heavy defeats in the Premier League, Newcastle will be concerned about the lack of fit bodies prepared to play on Wednesday, but Milan are having injury problems of their own.

Fikayo Tomori, who was so good against Newcastle in the reverse leg at the San Siro, is the only fit centre-back for the Italians with Kjaer now set to miss the match.

Kjaer has enjoyed an ‘outstanding’ career so far, achieving great things for club and country as well as being nominated for the Ballon d’OR back in 2021. He will be a huge miss to the Serie A side who are bottom of Group F.

It’s understood that Milan are concerned about the current structure of their defence and it could be something that Newcastle can look to exploit in a must-win game tomorrow evening.

Newcastle are starting to get some of their players back

Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff have already made their returns from injury to the first team against Tottenham, but there is now hope that Dan Burn could be on Newcastle’s bench against Milan while Joe Willock and Sven Botman are expected back very soon.

After what will feel like months and months of having to deal with new injuries almost every game, Eddie Howe is finally starting to get his squad back together, though he will be very cautious with how he reintroduces everyone back into the team.

It’s not clear yet whether these players will feature in the starting 11 against Milan, but with it being such an important game for the future of Newcastle, Howe may be inclined to take more risks than he normally would.
