Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier has hinted at a possible career direction after his playing career. He spoke on the ‘True Geordie Podcast‘ about the influence Diego Simeone had on him as a player at Athletico Madrid.
“For me, I learnt so much more on and off the field.
“I was writing down all the sessions for when I’ve finished.”
He was asked if he was already thinking about coaching and he replied, “Yeah, one hundred per cent.”
His attitude since arriving at Newcastle, Trippier has the qualties to make a really good coach
Since his arrival in January, Trippier has established himself as one of the key figures for the Magpies. He was barking orders to the rest of the defence on his debut. He even wore the armband against Aston Villa where he scored his second of the season.
Furthermore, following his injury against Aston Villa, the England international has still played a role. He’s travelled with the team to away matches like the one against Brentford a couple of weeks ago.
While many players may have stayed home or gone on holiday, Trippier has shown he’s a real team player. His attitude really proves that his move to Tyneside was clearly not all about the money.
That hard-working attitude would be the perfect fit for a coaching role. Additionally, the 31-year-old has played in some high stakes matches. Reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup and the Euros final with England, a Champions League final with Spurs and a League title-winning season with Atletico.
In addition, he came across very well in the interview. He spoke well and can really see he’s a mature guy and has a positive approach to any situation. Matched with a terrific work ethic, it’s no wonder he sees a career from him in coaching.
Both Diego Simeone and Eddie Howe are coaches he really admires. Especially the way he spoke in-depth about his approach when he was at Madrid, perhaps we’ll see shades of Simeone’s style in Trippier’s coaching techniques down the line.
