Newcastle United are interested in signing Timo Werner of Chelsea, according to journalist Christian Falk. On Twitter he labelled the Magpies interest in the German attacker as ‘true’.
This is not the first time the Toon has wanted him. It was reported in January that Newcastle were after Werner in January. He has the same agent as Fabian Schar, which made the club confident they could land him.
However, the 26-year-old is on a very high salary of £272,000-a-week (Spotrac). If Newcastle are interested in Werner they would likely have to negotiate a loan deal for this season.
Werner has been compared to another Newcastle player in the past
A few months ago pundit Jamie Carragher compared Miguel Almiron to Werner. Speaking to Sky Sports, the ex-defender spoke on their similar qualities.
“He put a shift in, he always does,” Carragher stated. “He just lacks a bit of quality. Similar to Timo Werner.”
We can see why Almiron was compared to Werner. The Chelsea forward has struggled for goals when played down the middle. But he could be a great alternative for Newcastle out wide, he can play there.
There was a lot of pressure on him when he first arrived, much like when Almiron joined Newcastle. But the German could be a great attacking option for Eddie Howe’s side.

He’s versatile and will want to prove he can hang in the Premier League. There’s been a struggle for the Magpies to land an attacker this summer. So we can understand why Newcastle are interested in Werner.
It would be a very good coup for the Toon. Newcastle wanted Werner in January, but now they could finally get him. Wages will definitely be the biggest obstacle, a loan would be the most logical solution.
Newcastle are in need of more attacking options before the season starts. They’ve definitely strengthened this summer, however, another forward and a winger would be the icing on the cake.
