Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul has labelled Tuesday night’s clash against his former team Newcastle United, who he believes are a ‘top team’, as ‘huge’.

The 33-year-old made 185 appearances for the Toon Army, but similar to his old side, the Canaries are also desperate for three crucial points in their own fight for Premier League survival.

Big game

Unlike Eddie Howe’s side, Norwich come into the pivotal clash at St James’ Park with seven points from their last three games.

The former Bournemouth man was in the dugout for the first time as Newcastle boss in Saturday’s trip to the Emirates, but that couldn’t inspire his side to pick up their first victory of the season, as we lost 2-0.

Dean Smith’s side currently sit three points above the Magpies in 19th place with 13 Premier League games played.

It will be a clash between the two worst defences in the top-flight and between them, 56 goals have been conceded so far this season.

Krul, who comes into the game off the back of getting his third Premier League clean sheet of the season, was under no illusions of how big a game it was for both sides.

But he felt if his side maintained their recent resurgence, he fancied their chances of picking up a positive result.

What Tim Krul said

Speaking via the club’s official website, Krul said: “It’s a huge game up there, not an easy one because they still haven’t won, but they’re a top team on their day and especially at home, so we can’t underestimate that.

“But we need to look at ourselves. If we hit the targets like we have in the last three games, I think we’re going to be fine.”
