No sign of £12m Newcastle star in training this morning after claim he could be fit for Brighton

Newcastle United training is suddenly a lot busier as the Magpies prepare to face Brighton And Hove Albion on Saturday.

Eddie Howe and his players are working towards their final home game of the season, as they aim to take another giant step towards European qualification with a win over the Seagulls at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United will be hoping to make it three wins on the bounce after following their 5-1 victory over Sheffield United with a 4-1 win against Burnley. If they can make it a hat-trick, finishing in the top six will suddenly be even more likely.

Key players seen in Newcastle United training after returning on Saturday

And the Newcastle United squad is suddenly looking a lot healthier ahead of Saturday’s game against Brighton.

Howe was able to welcome three key players back to his squad last weekend, with Miguel Almiron, Joelinton and Nick Pope all making their comebacks from injury. Pope was the only one who did not play, with the other two coming off the bench in the second half.

It was great to have Joelinton back after such a lengthy layoff, and he has been seen in Newcastle United training ahead of Saturday’s game alongside the likes of Almiron and Pope.

The club have uploaded 25 photos to their official website from Wednesday morning’s training session, with Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Dan Burn and more all spotted in training as well. However, a few others are conspicuously absent.

Two Newcastle players not spotted ahead of facing Brighton this weekend

One player who has not been seen in any of the pictures that Newcastle United uploaded is Kieran Trippier.

The £12million man has missed the Magpies’ last nine games with a calf injury, but it was reported that he is expected to return against Brighton this weekend. Whether or not that is still the case remains to be seen, with Trippier heading to Dubai last week to work on his fitness.

Another senior player who cannot be seen taking part is Fabian Schar. Eddie Howe recently suggested that the Swiss centre-back could miss the rest of the campaign with a hamstring problem, although Schar has disputed that claim.

But he looks likely to miss this weekend’s game, which will mean Emil Krafth starts alongside Dan Burn at centre-back once again.
