Callum Wilson was made to eat his words by John McGinn this week after claiming that Newcastle United were going to make light work of Aston Villa last week.
On the previous week’s Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson was full of confidence going into the Saturday early kick-off against Aston Villa.
Michail Antonio had mentioned that Aston Villa were on fire to which Wilson said “here comes the fire brigade to put out their flames”.
Callum Wilson saw the funny side of John McGinn’s comments
Of course, that’s not how things went down on the pitch as Newcastle were handed a 3-0 drubbing by the Villains. IN his post-match interview, John McGinn was asked about Wilson’s claims and had a brilliant response which Callum Wilson shared on this week’s podcast.
“Did you guys hear John McGinn’s comments referring to the podcast about my comments last week?” asked Wilson.

“It was brilliant banter from him, I’ve said about the fire brigade when you guys said they were on fire and I said we’re going to put the fire out. After the game they must have mentioned it to him, because he said it looks like the fire brigade was on strike. Honestly, unbelievable banter. I was thinking of messaging him and saying unbelievable scenes!”
Wilson needs to use this as fuel for Sunday
Fair play to Wilson. If you’re going to dish it out you’ve got to be prepared to take it, and he set himself up for that one.
If anything, he should use it as fuel to spur him on (no pun intended) for the game on Sunday when Tottenham visit St James’ Park.
A win over the London side would open up a nice gap between us and them in the top four race. A little bit of breathing room is definitely what we need after last week’s slip up.
