Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon can’t wait to get started with England this weekend as they take on Brazil on Saturday evening.
The winger made it his number one goal to get into England’s first-team at the beginning of the season having shone for their Under-21s side.
In an interview before Saturday’s game, Gordon shared how he is very excited to go up against his Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Gordon ‘so excited’ to play for England on Saturday
Gordon has thoroughly deserved this first ever call-up after being left out in the previous three squads this season when people were suggesting he make the switch to Scotland.
But the target was always England for the 23-year-old who has dreamt of this moment for so long, and to potentially face one of his club teammates in his debut would be even better.
Of course, Newcastle fans will simply be hoping that both players walk away from the game injury free after the news about Sven Botman yesterday, although their luck hasn’t been so good this season.
With both player’s passion and determination for their respective nations, this should be a good watch for a change for Toon supporters who typically don’t have much of a reason to follow Gareth Southgate’s squad.
On playing Brazil, Gordon said: “If I get to make my debut I don’t think there’s a better game, to be honest. Brazil, it’s just a team so rich in history with so many good players. I spoke to Bruno and he is such a good player. It would be so exciting to play against him at Wembley.
“With the squad we have got at the minute I don’t think there is a better game in national football, so it would be good. Obviously, there is no guarantee but it would mean everything to me.”

This will be a huge boost for Gordon
The £45m attacker has been working his whole career for this moment and now that he’s finally got a taste of it he’s sure to want to keep his space in that squad with a major tournament right around the corner.
It can only be good news for Newcastle who have started to see what Gordon can really do in the Premier League, and being around other England internationals should raise his game a bit more.
Southgate has already shared how big of a fan he is of Gordon’s work rate and drive to get back for his team defensively as well as pushing them up the pitch, so he knows exactly what he has to do for the remainder of the season.
Eddie Howe has worked absolute wonders for the young man who is now reaping the rewards of making the jump to Newcastle from Everton over a year ago.
