It has been claimed that Newcastle could step up their bid to sign Thuram after missing out on Dominik Szoboszlai, and a deal for the 22-year-old would really excite Toon supporters.

Whether or not Newcastle can do a deal for the £52million rated midfielder remains to be seen, but the club have now confirmed that his current employers will be playing at St James’ Park in August.

Newcastle have announced a pre-season tournament that is going to take place at St James’ Park ahead of the new campaign.
Fiorentina, Villarreal and Nice will travel to the North East for the Sela Cup, which is set to take place at SJP on August 5th and 6th.
Newcastle are scheduled to face Fiorentina and Villarreal that weekend, meaning they won’t actually come up against Thuram – assuming he is still a Nice player at that point.
If he does arrive with the Ligue 1 side next month, it will give Toon officials a great chance to get a closer look at the man who Steve Nickson is a big fan of. It will also allow Newcastle fans to see what he is all about, as they cheer Eddie Howe’s team on one week before the new Premier League season starts.
If Newcastle are going to sign Thuram, a deal will ideally be done before then and he will arrive at St James’ Park ready to wear black and white stripes. But for now it will be red and black stripes, although a date inside the cathedral on the hill is definitely in the diary.
