Newcastle’s Under 23 side won their derby clash away at Sunderland on Monday night.
Goals from Jay Turner-Cooke and Adam Wilson sealed a comeback victory at the Stadium of Light.
The attendance wasn’t what it would be for a senior clash between the sides, for obvious reasons.
But in the absence of a league clash between the senior sides, this was a great opportunity to grab the bragging rights and Newcastle took it.

Winning goalscorer Wilson posted a simple message on Instagram to celebrate the win and his goal.
Teammate Joe White was also thrilled to get the win on derby day.
Jack Young captained the side on the night and he declared the Stadium of Light the best place to win.
There won’t be too many Newcastle fans who disagree with that, especially now Sunderland remain two leagues below.

Even Warren Barton got in on the act in the comments to the club’s official account posting about the result.
It is an exciting time at Newcastle, even though the new era got underway with a defeat on Sunday, and the next generation beating Sunderland on their own patch only adds to that.
