Newcastle United Women are set to make history on May 1st.

It has been announced that they will play at St James’ Park for the first time in their history. They face Barnsley Women on the final day of the season, as the female Magpies go in search of promotion.

Newcastle are currently top of the Women’s National League Division One North and are having a brilliant season. They’ve only lost in the league once in 17 games so far.

The fixture will come 24 hours after Eddie Howe’s side welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park. It is their penultimate home game of the Premier League campaign.

While prices for Premier League football are fairly high, you can get a ticket for the women’s clash with Barnsley for just £3 if you’re an adult. It is free for under-16s and concessions.

With no senior Newcastle game to contend with and a really cheap price, there will hopefully be a huge crowd at St James’ Park.

Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have never shied away from their desire to improve the women’s team as well as the men’s. They have often attended games this season, and you can imagine they’ll be at St James’ Park on May 1st.

To outsiders, it may look like the new owners are just going to make expensive first-team signings to climb the Premier League. But they are making changes to the entire institution that will boost the club and the region.

From raising employees’ wages to helping out the women’s team, Staveley and co are building a better Newcastle United.
