According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are willing to pay £22million for Arsenal’s Joe Willock.

That’s the fee Arsenal are looking for, as we await a conclusion to this ongoing transfer saga.

Ever since Willock left Newcastle at the end of last season, fans have been pining for his return.

However, there was always a worry that, because of how well he played at Newcastle, Mikel Arteta would give him a chance at Arsenal.

Willock played 14 times for the Magpies, scoring an impressive eight Premier League goals.

But Arteta has used him sparingly during pre-season, whilst remaining coy over his future.

The Express recently claimed that a decision will be made within the next seven days, while the Telegraph have gone one further.

The fact Newcastle are reportedly willing to do a permanent deal could be pivotal. Arsenal want to sell so they have more money to invest in new signings.

A £22million deal would make Willock the second most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history, behind Joelinton.

It would be a huge transfer for the Magpies, especially in the aftermath of the failed takeover.

However, some Arsenal fans believe Willock is worth a lot more. They believe the Gunners board have got this wrong, and should be asking for a lot more than £22million.

However, that seems like a stretch. With all due respect, he’s only had one good spell during his professional career – his six months at Newcastle. At Arsenal he’s been in and out of the team, struggling to impact games.

Regardless, some Arsenal fans are far from happy.
