Recent weeks have proven how desperate Newcastle are for the January transfer window. And one player they’ve been linked with is Clarets defender James Tarkowski.
The Telegraph claimed in October that the 29-year-old could be the new owners’ first signing at St James’ Park. However, recent reports suggest Burnley are unwilling to do business in January, especially with a relegation rival like Newcastle.

Tarkowski will likely be in action at St James’ Park this afternoon.
As we previously said, it’s all about the three points for Newcastle. But there will be some eyes on a player who many hope will be wearing black and white next year.
Ironically, a strong performance from Tarkowski could be the worst thing imaginable for the Magpies.
If he helps Burnley keep a clean sheet then Howe can likely kiss goodbye to Premier League survival.
Depending on how Tarkowski feels about a possible move to Newcastle, it could be an awkward afternoon for the England international.
The Newcastle hierarchy will want him to play well to prove he’s a worthwhile investment, but not so well that it costs us that elusive first win of the season.
