Newcastle will need to stop an in-form Emmanuel Dennis when they face Watford this weekend.

The Hornets have picked up two wins since returning to the Premier League, beating Aston Villa and Norwich City. Interestingly, Dennis scored in both games.

So far he’s netted twice in five games for Watford, which represents a decent start to life in England for the 23-year-old.

He joined Watford from Club Brugge this summer, costing just £2million. However, it may rise to £4million.

Dennis is already proving to be a bit of a bargain, and could be an important player for Watford if they are to survive in the top flight.

But his price tag has dramatically dropped in recent years, and he was once a reported target for Newcastle United.

Newcastle wanted Emmanuel Dennis in 2020

Half way through Steve Bruce’s first season as manager, the Magpies were struggling for goals. The new £40million number nine wasn’t living up to the hype.

Multiple forwards were linked with a move to St James’ Park in January 2020, such as Olivier Giroud and Krzysztof Piatek. Another name was that of Dennis…

According to French journalist Manu Lonjon, the Magpies launched a bid for the forward. However, they were played down by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder. At the time he was valued at £25million.

Regardless, Dennis didn’t move clubs during that transfer window. Instead he had to wait more than a year before arriving at Watford for a fraction of the price.

He looks like an inspired signing by the Hornets, and he’ll be keen to continue his good form against Newcastle.

As for the Magpies they desperately need three points, and will need to nullify Dennis if they hope to triumph at Vicarage Road.
