The latest attacking name to be linked with Newcastle is Emmanuel Dennis.
The rumour comes from Eurosport reporter Manu Lonjon, who tweeted that the Magpies had made a bid for the Club Brugge forward. The move was quickly played down by Lee Ryder, claiming that the word from Newcastle was that they hadn’t made a £25 million bid for Dennis ‘at this stage’.
The words ‘at this stage’ are intriguing, implying that a bid will be made in the future.
Regardless, whether a bid has or hasn’t been made for the Nigerian, he’s certainly a player we should be targeting.
The 22-year-old is versatile, capable of playing through the middle as a striker or out wide. This would give Steve Bruce room to manoeuvre. He’s scored eight goals so far this season, including two against Real Madrid.
Our two strikers currently, Joelinton and Andy Carroll, operate as target men. The ball is played up to them, and it’s their job to keep a hold of it and get Newcastle up the pitch. Things would be very different with Dennis.
The youngster has obscene pace, which could make us even more devastating on the counter attack. We’ve already Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron who are rapid, plus there is still talk of Ademola Lookman arriving.
Add Dennis to the mix, and we could have one of the fastest forward lines in the Premier League. Dennis would give us something we don’t have and could add a new dimension to our struggling attack.
Foot Mercato reported late last year that Club Brugge want at least £25 million for their player – does that put him out of our price range?
