It’s been a topsy-turvy 2024 for Newcastle United but there are signs that there is better to come next year.
After finally returning to the biggest stage of Champions League football in 2023, Newcastle United failed to kick on and have slipped back down the Premier League table.
Eddie Howe has been unable to recruit as he might have expected following the PIF takeover and his side are out gunned by the established top six.
Yet, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes they do have a lot of quality in their ranks and should be capable of achieving more in 2025.
Newcastle have a lot of creative players and here is how many assists they managed to get throughout the year.

Elliot Anderson – 1
Elliot Anderson picked up one assist in his final few months for the club before leaving for Nottingham Forest, coming in a 1-1 draw with Brighton.
Lloyd Kelly – 1
He might not have played many minutes since signing from Bournemouth in the summer but Lloyd Kelly teed up Harvey Barnes for the opening goal in the win over Tottenham in September.
Joe Willock – 1
Joe Willock’s only assist of 2024 was also for Barnes as he created his winning goal against Wolves.
Sven Botman – 1
Sven Botman has missed even more of 2024 due to an ACL tear but he too set one goal up against Nottingham Forest.
Sean Longstaff – 1
Sean Longstaff only assist of the year was to tee up Botman to score in a losing effort at Liverpool.
Fabian Schar – 1
Centre-back star Fabian Schar has been amongst the goals this year, with eight in total, but he has only managed to set one up.
Tino Livramento – 1
Tino Livramento will be hoping to get more assists to his name in 2024 after just getting the single one this past year, in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester United.
Joelinton – 2
Injury kept Joelinton on the sidelines for most of the first half of 2024 but he still managed to pick up one assist against fierce rivals Sunderland first. In the new season, he set up Anthony Gordon’s fine finish against Aston Villa after carrying the ball up the field.
Dan Burn – 2
Dan Burn picked up two assists in 2024 and they couldn’t have come against better sides in Liverpool and Manchester City.
Lewis Miley – 2
The second half of Lewis Miley’s breakout 2024 was cut short by injury but he set up two goals beforehand, against Chelsea and Luton.
Miguel Almiron – 2
Fan favourite Miguel Almiron’s time at St. James’ Park is slowly coming to an end after losing his starting spot. He only managed two assists in 2024, both in the FA Cup.
Sandro Tonali – 2
Sandro Tonali had a rough start to 2024 as he served the rest of his suspension but is now beginning to find his groove again at the turn of the year, with his two fine assists coming in wins over Chelsea and Forest.
Lewis Hall – 3
As Lewis Hall continues to get better and better in a Newcastle shirt, he is bound to improve his 2024 tally of just three assists in 2025. In fairness, only bad luck and poor finishing from teammates has stopped him from getting more already.
Kieran Trippier – 3
Despite his reduction in minutes in 2024, Kieran Trippier still set up three goals and they came in consecutive games last season against Aston Villa, Luton and Forest.
Harvey Barnes – 3
Though he remains in and out of the team and is yet to really deliver consistently, Harvey Barnes has contributed a lot in the final third with three assists alongside eight goals.
Alexander Isak – 6
Not only is Alexander Isak Newcastle’s top scorer by a significant margin but he’s also an avid creator as well. His interplay and passing is extremely underrated but it’s resulted in six assists and it could have been more if his teammates could finish as well as him.
Jacob Murphy – 10
For a player who Newcastle fans probably think they could upgrade upon, Jacob Murphy continues to be one of the side’s best creators. He got 10 assists throughout 2024 despite not being a regular in the starting XI.
Bruno Guimaraes – 11
Midfield general Bruno Guimaraes managed to set up 11 goals in between all his full-bloodied tackles and leading the side in 2024 as he continued to shine in the middle of the park.
Anthony Gordon – 12
Anthony Gordon has really started to realise his potential in 2024 with a string of thrilling performances, so it’s no surprise he finishes at the top of the assist charts with 12, edging past Guimaraes by setting up Joelinton to score against Manchester United with the last goal of 2024.
