Newcastle United are set to have two players unavailable for their trip to Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Newcastle have already suffered enough with injuries this season with Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson all still out.

Now, they are also suffering from players who are cup tied as both Joe White and Max Thompson who spent the first half of the season on loan will not be eligible to play at the weekend.

Newcastle lose more players ahead of FA Cup tie

It’s not exactly a huge blow because both White and Thompson are yet to make an appearance for Newcastle having been out on loan at Crewe Alexandra and Northampton Town respectively.

However, with both of their spells away ending this month, Eddie Howe has been keen to take a look at the two youngsters with the possibility of including them in the first team.

That’s more likely to happen in the FA Cup when more teams are rotating their squads than in the Premier League, but it won’t be the case for Newcastle who will have this pair missing on Saturday.

This means that Newcastle will be relying on their only three fit midfielders to see them through the game unless Howe decides to look elsewhere in his academy for some support in the middle of the pitch.

Newcastle’s unavailable list looking better next month

It feels like there’s been a never ending list of players who have been unavailable for Newcastle this season, though things may finally be starting to turn around next month.

This is despite the recent news of Joelinton’s injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season, obviously a huge blow to Newcastle, but others will return soon.

Willock, who has only made three appearances this season, is set to make his return in the next couple of weeks with Barnes and Murphy also expected back soon.

As Newcastle head into the final five months of the season, it’s so important that they get their squad depth back if they are to have any hopes of finishing in a European position in the Premier League.
