Newcastle United star Alexander Isak snubbed as official announcement made

Alexander Isak is undoubtedly one of the very best forwards in the world, hence why Newcastle United do not want to lose him.

Isak wants to join Liverpool this summer but, so far at least, Newcastle United have given little indication that they would be open to a sale.

Perhaps that could change if the club can land a replacement but, for now, Isak remains under contract at St James’ Park

An ugly transfer saga is not of much help to the Sweden international, either. He’s at risk of having a seriously delayed impact for whatever team he plays for next season while this impasse at Newcastle continues.

Isak at his best is one of the elite forwards in world football. He scored 27 goals in 42 games last season, including the winner in a showpiece final as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup.

However, he’s not made the cut when it comes to the long list for the Ballon d’Or.

Alexander Isak not nominated for Ballon d’Or

There were never many suggestions that Isak would actually win the Ballon d’Or, which is awarded to the best player in the world as voted for by a select panel of journalists.

However, the fact he wasn’t included in the 30-man long list is something of a surprise.

He’s now had two brilliant seasons at Premier League level, and finished behind only Mohamed Salah for goals last season (29 to 23).

Isak scored more than Erling Haaland, who is included in the list.

Alexander Isak’s time at Newcastle United now hits all-time low

Sadly for Newcastle fans, there doesn’t appear to be any resolution to the Isak saga any time soon.

Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, he does not even want to play for the club again.

That is gutting to hear. Isak is well within his rights to want to leave but there is a way of departing from a football club.

The fact is that no one forced him and his agent to sign a long-term Newcastle contract with no release clause in it.

Whatever happens with Isak this summer, it’s just a shame it has come down to this.
