Newcastle United now want to repeat Bruno Guimaraes deal with ‘world class’ player

There was a £100million reason why Newcastle United were able to keep Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

It had been feared that Bruno Guimaraes would leave Newcastle United this summer. There was so much speculation over his future, with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain linked with signing the Brazil international.

However, none of those clubs were able to take Bruno away from St James’ Park. That is because they were unwilling to activate his £100million release clause, which had been inserted when the 26-year-old signed a new contract with Newcastle last year.

The release clause made Newcastle vulnerable, but it also ended up being pivotal in keeping him at the club.

Newcastle want Alexander Isak to have a release clause

Now Newcastle could look to repeat the same trick with Alexander Isak, as they aim to hand the 24-year-old a contract extension.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle are trying to negotiate a new contract with Isak, with a fresh deal likely to include a pay rise and a release clause.

Give Me Sport add that while the Magpies are yet to agree new terms with the forward, there is a sense of calmness about the situation due to how happy Isak is on Tyneside.

Newcastle must keep ‘world class’ Isak

During Newcastle’s PSR nightmare in June, the one player who was absolutely not for sale was Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international is absolutely priceless, having enjoyed the best season of his career during the 2023/24 campaign. He scored 25 goals in all competitions, which resulted in Dan Burn calling Isak ‘world class’.

If Newcastle want to compete for honours and get back into the Champions League, they have to keep players like Isak.

It is pivotal that he remains at St James’ Park, and a new contract will help towards that goal.

Hopefully it is not long before Isak signs a new Newcastle United contract, which could include a rather sizeable release clause.

The Magpies will probably do the same with Anthony Gordon

As well as Isak, Newcastle are also trying to tie Anthony Gordon down to a new contract.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer, with the Reds offered the chance to bring Gordon to Anfield as Newcastle desperately attempted to salvage their PSR situation.

That deal did not happen, and Gordon remain at St James’ Park.

It has recently been reported that Newcastle are going to open talks with Gordon over a new deal, and you would imagine that a release clause will likely be included if he signs a contract extension as well.
