Eddie Howe has given an official update on Yoane Wissa’s fitness ahead of Newcastle United vs Burnley.
The 29-year-old is yet to make his Newcastle United debut after arriving for £55million from Brentford, but that could soon change.
The striker has been stepping up his recovery, while it has been reported that Wissa is pushing to feature against Burnley on Saturday. That would be a major boost for Eddie Howe, with the fixture list showing no sign of relenting during the winter period.

Howe has now addressed the striker’s status ahead of Newcastle United vs Burnley, having spoken to the media on Friday morning.
“Getting closer,” Howe said when asked about Wissa, as reported by the Chronicle.
“We did an 11 v 11 game on Wednesday which was more minutes for him. Round about half an hour so we will see how he is today.
“So far he’s looked good and come through everything. We still have training today and we have to make a decision if he is not just fit but fit to make a difference.
“I think it will be a big boost for us and for the squad to have someone of his experience, calibre and quality back in the group.
“We need to be mindful of how long he’s been out and how little training he’s had. Normally we want to give him more but in our situation we don’t have the grace to do that. He’s a great finisher but match sharpness is the concern to make sure we bring him back at the right time.”

That is why there is extra hope he can feature on Saturday. Newcastle are in action at St James’ Park, whereas their next two games are away from home. Giving Wissa the chance to feel the love from thousands of Geordies would serve as a major confidence boost, as Wissa aims to repay Newcastle’s faith in him.
