Newcastle United appear to have emerged from Saturday’s defeat to Brighton relatively unscathed.

While losing to Brighton was no doubt a disappointment for Newcastle United, at least they didn’t pick up any fresh injuries on the south coast.

Indeed, the Newcastle United squad will be tested in the days to come. Eddie Howe’s side host Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday before Fulham make the journey up to St James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

On Wednesday, they entertain Tottenham in the Carabao Cup as their defence of the trophy continues.

The fixtures are piling up, so here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news and potential return dates.

Sandro Tonali

Sandro Tonali did not start for Newcastle United against Benfica on Tuesday night.

Tonali is suffering with illness and was left on the bench for the start of the game.

“A bit of illness for Sandro so he will be touch and go for the game. We’ll give him every opportunity. He wasn’t there for training today. He’s such an important player so we’ll use all the hours we have.”

Potential return date: October 2025

Lewis Hall

Lewis Hall is recovering from a hamstring injury for Newcastle United, one he suffered during their Champions League win over Union Saint-Gilloise.

That’s a blow to Hall, who is still working towards trying to recapture the form he enjoyed last season before a foot injury ended his campaign early.

However, Howe confirmed before the Brighton game that Hall could return from injury before the November international break.

“The second scan was good news,” confirmed Howe.

“There were different scales he could be out, it’s the shorter time. We hope he’ll be back before the next international break. From the first scan, that might not have been possible. It’s good news as he’s such an important player for us.”

Potential return date: November 2025

Yoane Wissa

Yoane Wissa could make his debut for Newcastle against Brentford in early November after suffering a knee injury in September.

Wissa is out running on the grass again as he steps up his recovery. Having him back will be a major boost for Howe, even if Nick Woltemade’s form is not an issue right now.

The Newcastle United manager said: “Yoane’s had his first time on the grass with us which was great to see. We need to step him up gradually. I know he is desperate to get out and show his worth but it’s one step at a time now.”

Potential return date: November 2025

Tino Livramento

Tino Livramento is feeling positive after suffering a knee injury for Newcastle.

Livramento isn’t expected to return before December but Howe gave a promising update on the England international when speaking before Brighton.

“He is out of the brace he was in, and every time I speak to him, he seems positive about his return,” he said.

“There’s not massive changes in the timescale he was given, but he is going about his recovery well.”

Potential return date: December 2025

Harrison Ashby

Harrison Ashby has never played a senior game for Newcastle United but was named in their Premier League squad for this season.

He would have been a potential option at full-back given the injury crisis the team have endured there but Howe has revealed the 23-year-old has been injured for some time now.

He said: “Unfortunately, at the moment, Harrison is injured and he’s been injured for a period of time with a thigh injury, so we’re waiting for him to be fit again.”
