Newcastle United are heading back to Wembley.

Indeed, this resurgent Newcastle United side will clash with Liverpool at Wembley in March in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

Newcastle made light work of Arsenal on Wednesday evening, running out 2-0 winners at St James’ Park to rack up an impressive 4-0 aggregate victory over the two legs.

Liverpool, meanwhile, smashed Tottenham 4-0 a day later to book their spot in the final in a 4-1 aggregate victory.

It’s going to be quite the occasion at Wembley. Granted, the Reds will surely be seen as the favourite but Eddie Howe’s side did impress in December’s 3-3 Premier League draw against Arne Slot’s team.

Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall is well aware of the challenge that awaits.

Jason Tindall sends Liverpool warning ahead of Carabao Cup final

Tindall has had some arguments with Liverpool in the past, albeit that was during the Jurgen Klopp era.

Something of a lovable rouge amongst Newcastle supporters, Howe’s assistant knows Liverpool boast huge amounts of quality but is hopeful the Magpies can improve on their performance during the 2023 final defeat to Manchester United.

Newcastle didn’t turn up that day. Win or lose, this time has to be different. Tindall has warned his players that they must improve, particularly against such a good Liverpool team.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Tindall said: “They are a top, top team with exceptional players and we have to go to Wembley and we have to learn from our experiences last time.

“It is another game for us, we have to go out there and deliver the level of performance we did in the two semi-finals. And hopefully, we can go there this time and go one better.”

Newcastle United should relish underdog tags for Carabao Cup final

Newcastle’s trophy history is not something to shout about, there is little getting away from that.

However, perhaps heading to Wembley as genuine underdogs can be a good thing. Some of Howe’s best nights have come against the traditional bigger teams, with famous wins over Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal living long in the memory.

Slot knows how good Newcastle are and though his team will be considered favourites, that is something Newcastle should relish.

Oh how sweet it would be to see Tindall of all people lifting that trophy.
