It looks like Newcastle United have survived an injury scare involving Miguel Almiron during the international break.

The 29-year-old has been over in South America representing Paraguay, and appeared to suffer an injury during their first game against Peru.

Almiron played the full 90 minutes, but looked to be in serious pain after the full time whistle. He hobbled off the pitch, suggesting that he had sustained an injury.

However, his international manager stated that it was just fatigue, and that he hoped Miggy would actually be fit for Paraguay’s next game against Venezuela.

That took place on Tuesday night, and Paraguay boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s wish came true.

Miguel Almiron is not injured

Paraguay lost 1-0 to Venezuela on Tuesday night, with former Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon scoring a stoppage time winner from the penalty spot.

While he was on the losing side, Almiron was at least able to play in the World Cup qualifier. Despite his injury scare, Miggy started against Venezuela and was able to play 85 minutes before being substituted.

With almost a full 90 minutes in the tank, it is clear that Newcastle have nothing to worry about regarding Almiron’s fitness.

That means he should be available for selection when the Magpies take on Brentford on Saturday evening. However, even before his injury scare, one pundit suggested that the speedster should be dropped for the game against the Bees.

That was the view of former player Robbie Mustoe, who suggested that Howe should consider replacing Almiron following the 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

Howe may still decide to remove Almiron from his starting XI, but it looks like any decision he now makes will be tactical rather than enforced.

While he is struggling for form, it is excellent news that Almiron is not injured, as September is going to be a very busy month for Newcastle United.
