Miguel Almiron gave Newcastle United fans a fright on Friday after hobbling off the field following Paraguay’s 0-0 draw with Peru.

Miguel Almiron, who had the opportunity to grab the winner for Paraguay appeared to be playing with considerable discomfort towards the end of the game, even falling to the floor in stoppage time to receive treatment.

The physio did the dreaded rolling arms sign suggesting Newcastle‘s £21million man should be subbed off but with so little time left Almiron saw the game out.

Now with Paraguay set to face Venezuela on Tuesday, the Paraguay boss Barros Schelotto has moved to allay fears on Almiron’s injury telling reporters (via The Shields Gazette): “It’s okay, very tired, cramped. [The team] had a long trip, without much recovery time and their commitment forces them to give everything.

“[Almiron] doesn’t have an injury. I hope he can recover and be against Venezuela.”

With Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Elliot Anderson all unable to participate in their respective country’s international fixures and Martin Dubravka getting his face kicked off by Cristiano Ronaldo last night, Newcastle fans will be counting down the days until this international break is over.

Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are both on England duty with the Three Lions set to take on Ukraine tonight and Scotland on Tuesday.

Newcastle need a fully fit squad heading into the Brentford game

Trippier is likely to get more game time than Wilson but that doesn’t do anything to detract from the fear.

Newcastle need to return to winning ways against Brentford next week to get their Premier League campaign on track, but also to take some confidence into the Champions League opener against AC Milan the following Tuesday.

The only way we can do that is with a fully, or at least almost fully fit squad. Joe Willock, who is sorely missed right now, is still some way off returning to action.
