Newcastle United were dealt a blow on Monday night despite a convincing win against Manchester United.
The Magpies were exceptional once again as they made it five wins in a row across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
Newcastle’s win against Man United saw them rise to fifth in the Premier League table, just three points off Chelsea in fourth.

However, a challenge on Red Devils forward Rasmus Hojlund meant Toon defender Fabian Schar was shown a yellow card. His fifth in the Premier League this season – Schar will miss the game against Tottenham Hotspur as a result.
Schar was also booked in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win against Brentford meaning he will also miss the first leg of the semi-final against Arsenal at the Emirates effectively handing him a two-match ban across all competitions.
However, amid the disappointment, there’s a silver lining for one Newcastle player.

Sandro Tonali avoids Premier League ban
Sandro Tonali has already spent an extended period out of Newcastle’s first-team squad after he picked up a 10-month suspension for breaching betting rules.
The Italian returned to Newcastle’s starting XI in August playing in the Magpies’ Carabao Cup win against Nottingham Forest.
Going into the Man United game he found himself on four bookings. Newcastle fans can breathe a sigh of relief that the 24-year-old didn’t get booked as the Premier League’s yellow card allowance has now reset and Tonali isn’t at risk of being handed a one-match ban.
Newcastle have already had to deal with suspension trouble this season with Schar sent off in the opening game of the season, Dan Burn and Joelinton have also served bans for accumulating yellow cards.
Players now have 13 games to avoid five bookings with the allowance once again resetting after 32 games have been played.
Joelinton at risk of two-game ban
Even after Joelinton has served a ban for Newcastle’s win against Ipswich, the Brazilian is now at risk of being handed a two-game suspension later this season.
The 28-year-old is currently sat on six bookings and is four yellow cards away from missing two games which could prove to be vitally important towards the end of the season.
Like Joelinton, Burn and Schar could also pick up two-game bans later this season. Last season, Bruno Guimaraes almost suffered a similar fate but miraculously went 12 games without a booking to avoid suspension.
Schar will be frustrated with his booking considering he was only 10 minutes away from being handed a clean slate.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will miss the game against Newcastle after picking up a one-match ban for accumulating yellow cards.
