Newcastle United were a force to be reckoned with on Wednesday night.

The Magpies immediately took control of the tie with Sandro Tonali opening the scoring after just nine minutes.

He would grab his second of the game in the 43rd minute before Fabian Schar ensured Newcastle’s win over Brentford helping them reach another Carabao Cup semi-final.

With the draw taking place on Thursday night, the Toon has the chance to reach a second final in three seasons but with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool in the draw with them it could be a tough task.

Amidst the chaos of the win, one eagle-eyed fan caught a moment that shows even if you aren’t on the pitch you are still very much ‘into’ the game.

Anthony Gordon was subbed off in the 77th minute in the win against Brentford on Wednesday after another bright performance.

In a video caught by NUFCBlog.co.uk, we see Newcastle gearing up to take a corner. When the ball comes in, it’s knocked out to Tonali who smashes the ball towards goal. The effort is sadly blocked and with it went his chance to bag his third of the game.

On the touchline, Gordon stayed behind the goal to watch the corner come in and as Tonali went to hit it hurled his hands up ready to celebrate with him.

When it went out he sighed and kept on walking back to the dugout. Newcastle fans can only imagine what the scenes would’ve looked like if Tonali scored that third.

Anthony Gordon avoids a Carabao Cup suspension

Gordon was on thin ice during Wednesday’s Brentford game. He picked up a booking in Newcastle’s win against Chelsea and another booking would’ve meant he missed the first leg of the semi-finals. Thankfully for Toon boss Eddie Howe, the 23-year-old was on his best behaviour before being taken off.

The same can’t be said for others though as Schar and Bruno Guimaraes were booked meaning they’ll miss the first leg.

Lewis Hall also gets out of jail free after staying out of trouble. He was booked when Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest on penalties in August.

While Newcastle will be without the pair, Sean Longstaff has served his suspension and can return to the squad with the hopes that Joelinton’s nasty knock isn’t enough to keep him out for long.
