Newcastle United fans need to be patient. That’s the message from Kieran Trippier.

The 31-year-old was the first signing of the new era, arriving for £12million from Atletico Madrid. He set the ball rolling for what was an exciting January, with four more new faces following in his footsteps.

Trippier set the standard for Newcastle signings, and he also set the standard within the club shortly after his arrival.

He quickly established himself as a key player in the dressing room, and enjoyed an excellent start on the pitch. He even got a couple of goals too, netting free kicks against Everton and Aston Villa.

The right-back’s Toon career was put on hold due to a fractured foot, but that didn’t stop him influencing proceedings.

Trippier travelled home and away with the Magpies, helping any way he could whilst hobbling around on crutches and donning his moon boot.

With one game to go, Trippier is back fit and Newcastle United are safe. Eddie Howe’s side signed off in style at St James’ Park, beating Arsenal 2-0.

It was an incredible night inside St James’ Park, and it provided a brief glimpse into the future.

It’s unclear what to expect next season, but Trippier has called for patience from fans expecting who expecting Newcastle to compete near the top.

“Now that the takeover has happened, I think the supporters still need to be a little patient,” Trippier said on Optus Sport’s ‘The Big Interview’.

“We’ve just got out of a relegation fight, and we don’t want to jump from there to there [bottom to top]. We need to build.”

He went on to add: “When new owners come in, people expect it to go from there to there. We just need to be patient and just keep building. Next season finish in the top 10 and keep building. Hopefully new players come in to help the team and build the team to get higher up the league.

“It’s certainly exciting times. There’ll be a lot more success coming back to this club, that’s for sure. But it’s about being patient. That’s the key.”

Patience is vital. This is a project that will take time.

However, I think a lot of fans understand that. Supporters aren’t getting too far ahead of themselves, but instead are making the most of the good times having been starved of joy for so long.

The second half of this season has been so much fun. Fans have reconnected with the club and can see it moving in a positive direction.

But it will be a steady build. A top 10 finish next season would certainly be deemed a success, while Eddie Howe has spoke about his desire for a cup run.
