Sam Fender welcomed Newcastle United defender Dan Burn on stage during his final St James’ Park show.
The local lad played the home of Newcastle United for the fifth time in his career and for the third time on his 2025 People Watching tour, as a sea of black and white shirts took over St James’ Park as if it were a matchday.
After arriving on stage to the Champions League anthem, Sam Fender later went on to bring Dan Burn out to a wild reception. But the 33-year-old was not alone, as he brought the Carabao Cup trophy with him.
Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup was largely down to Burn, who scored the opener against Liverpool at Wembley with a thunderous header. He continues to live every Toon fan’s dream, as he hoisted the trophy high in the air midway through Fender’s set.

Newcastle United fans react as Dan Burn lifts Carabao Cup at Sam Fender show
Newcastle United fans have been reacting on X (formerly known as Twitter) to Burn’s appearance on stage at St James’ Park during Sam Fender’s show.
“Dan Burn showing up was 10/10,” wrote one fan.
A second supporter wrote: “What do you mean Dan Burn got on stage with Sam Fender with the Carabao Cup and quoted The Dying Light, we really have the best club out there.”
“Best part of my week! Big Dan Burn,” added this Newcastle United supporter.
A fourth fan wrote: “Dan Burn quite literally is the king of Newcastle, what a bloke.”
This member of the Toon Army added: “Dan Burn lifting the cup on stage with Sam Fender tonight. A certain fanbase are going to be up in arms about it, for some bizarre reason.”
“What is God? His name’s Dan Burn,” added a final fan, in reference to Fender changing the lyric of his song Little Bit Closer following Burn’s Wembley goal.
What Dan Burn said on stage during Sam Fender’s St James’ Park show
After lifting the trophy in the air with Fender, Burn briefly spoke to the crowd.
He said: “This is for me mam, me dad and all me pals, and all the ones that didn’t make the night.”
Burn was quoting a song from Fender’s second album called the Dying Light, which he played as part of his encore later in the night.
The song has become the inspiration for a Wor Flags banner which was displayed before the Magpies’ game against Brentford. That was Newcastle’s first match after winning the Carabao Cup.
As the players took to the pitch that night, a banner in the East Stand read: “For all the ones that didn’t make the night.”
The banner, which is a poignant tribute to those supporters who were unable to witness Eddie Howe’s side winning the cup, was also on display inside St James’ Park during Fender’s three shows.
