Newcastle United fans buzzing as Yoane Wissa makes statement return, he’s ‘going to be brilliant’

Newcastle United fans on social media have been delighted by Yoane Wissa’s performance for DR Congo.

Wissa made a dramatic late move to Newcastle United to round off a transfer window like no other for the club.

The former Brentford star will need to hit the ground running, too. Newcastle have lacked the presence of a striker all season and do not have time to wait for Nick Woltemade to develop.

Indeed, Wissa could prove to be Newcastle’s most important signing of the summer

The 29-year-old is a proven Premier League operator and could feasibly lead the line while Woltemade gets up to speed.

Despite not playing for Brentford since the end of last season, Wissa was in fine form for his country on Friday and Newcastle fans are excited.

Yoane Wissa makes statement return to football

Wissa can hardly be lauded for his conduct during his final few months at Brentford but what’s done is done. The same has to be said of Alexander Isak, too.

Thankfully for Newcastle, the fact that Wissa had not played a competitive game for 104 days did not appear to matter too much. His last appearance came for his country against Madagascar in June, though that was a friendly.

The forward both scored and assisted during DR Congo’s 4-1 win away at South Sudan in a World Cup qualifier at the Juba National Stadium.

“We signed [Callum] Wilson at the same age as Wissa and he was brilliant. I swear this is going to be one of the best signings we have made for a while,” said another fan.

Another added: “He’s got to start. Woltemade will need time.”

“Can’t wait to see him score more here,” said another.

One fan said: “Beautiful.”

Yoane Wissa surely has to start for Newcastle United against Wolves

It’s not ideal to have to lean on Wissa so quickly, given his lack of Premier League action.

However, Eddie Howe doesn’t really have much choice. Woltemade certainly looks like a talent but throwing him in at the deep end too quickly may be unwise for his development.

Newcastle spent up to £55million on Wissa for a reason. They needed someone to come in right away and hit the ground running.

He simply has to start when Newcastle return to Premier League action at home to Wolves after the international break.
