Newcastle United fans are worried about ‘angry’ Eddie Howe after alarming interview

The summer transfer window is not totally going to plan for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe.

At the end of the 2024/25 season, Eddie Howe made it clear he wanted Newcastle United to move fast in the transfer market. However, that has not really happened.

Anthony Elanga has joined Newcastle, arriving from Nottingham Forest. At £55million, he is one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

However, he is the only major arrival at St James’ Park. There has been more bad news than good news, with plenty of key targets moving elsewhere. The most recent is Hugo Ekitike, who the Magpies tried to pay a club-record fee for.

Instead, Ekitike is joining Liverpool. That does mean that Alexander Isak will stay at Newcastle, but Howe needs his squad to get stronger rather than just remain the same.

Newcastle United fans spot ‘frustrated’ Eddie Howe

For the first time since last season, the Newcastle United manager has spoken to the media.

Howe has conducted an interview with the club’s official website where he addressed Paul Mitchell’s exit as sporting director and the amount of work that has been put into transfers. However, there is not a lot to show for that hard work.

In response to the interview, some Newcastle United fans on X believe that Howe is ‘clearly frustrated’ by what has been going on in the transfer market.

One supporter wrote: “Eddie Howe is clearly frustrated, transfer window has been a mess. A big month ahead for the club to turn it round as we can’t be going into the season without the depth we need to compete.”

Another Newcastle United fan added: “Concerned that we appear to only be able to do one deal at a time in the transfer market Howe interview was a tough watch and after his miracle work last season he deserves better Big 6 weeks ahead.”

“Bloke looks and sounds livid,” remarked this Toon supporter.

This Newcastle United fan responded to Howe’s interview, writing: “Angry? No. Frustrated? Yes. Most teams are competing for the same small pool of players and we’ve been on the losing end of a few of them deals atm we’ve got Elanga in and this window can still be a success even if it doesn’t feel like it. Now like, let’s stay calm.”

How long do Newcastle United have left to make more signings?

There have been plenty of setbacks this summer, and Howe will understandably be disappointed that a lot of hard work has effectively been for nothing.

But there is still plenty of time for Newcastle United to enjoy a successful summer transfer window. The window closes on 1st September, which means the Magpies still have more than six-and-a-half weeks to bring players in.

There is a lot of business to do though, with Newcastle keen on a goalkeeper, centre-back and striker.

They had thought the striker situation was going to be sorted by Ekitike, but that deal has collapsed. Following that news, Newcastle could target Yoane Wissa instead.
